Lincoln’s Log – Winter 2021
Hey, y’all. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought forth so many personal and professional challenges, uncertainties, weirdness…I’m sure you have some words to add. Perhaps they can’t be said in print? With the seemingly never-ending Zoom meetings, I have found myself out of practice with and quite bummed out by not seeing students and colleagues every day around campus. With all that’s going on, that’s a small price to pay. The health and safety of our communities remain ever-present.
Over the last 11 months, I have gotten quite lazy at keeping up with the GPSS and ASUW alumni student leaders from the past 25 years. Yikes, 25 years…that necessitates a different conversation. I’ve fallen behind on the news: good, bad, great. Things like babies, job changes, family news, the passing of relatives, home repairs/renovations, fantasy-football wins, weekend excursions, your latest IPA discoveries, illnesses, etc. Thank goodness for the Christmas and holiday cards I got this year.
Part of this is due to my stepping away from Facebook because it grew somewhat tedious and odious during last summer and into autumn. I suspect I’m not alone in pulling back this past year. Stepping away was a lot easier than expected, but I recognize that I missed out hearing about you and the lives of your families.
I have a request. Will you please take a few minutes to reach out to your friends/peers from your years with GPSS and ASUW…check in with them? See how they are doing and holding up. I pray that once we begin to see the vaccinated-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel, we will get to gather at an event or a pub to catch up. Until then, call, text, or email one of your GPSS and ASUW friends and say hello.
Miss y’all.
