We will be providing answers to the most frequently asked questions here, but please contact individual offices for more information.

Table of Contents

Is the HUB open for services and studying?

The HUB is closed until further notice; however, many services remain available remotely. Please contact individual offices for information.

When will the building open?

Like all UW buildings, the HUB will remain closed until further notice. There is no known date for opening.

Do employees who work in the HUB have access to their offices?

Employees with neighborhood offices/workplaces in the HUB and with pre-existing card access, will be permitted to come to work if you choose, as long as you are not exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, trouble breathing). UW employees are discouraged from coming into work and should be working remotely if at all possible. If student employees need access to an office, please coordinate with Justin Camputaro (jcamp77@uw.edu) and Shalom Murphy (murphs16@uw.edu) for consideration. The objective is to significantly limit people gathering together in the HUB. Those who are in the building must practice social distancing. You may not congregate in groups of 10 or more and must remain 6 feet apart.

Is the HUB still receiving mail/packages?

USPS and Campus Mail will continue to be delivered to the HUB daily. Mail will be picked-up and sorted between 10:30am-12:30pm, Monday-Friday, and available in the Student Activities Office (SAO), HUB 232. Work-related Amazon, FedEx, and UPS deliveries will occur daily between 10:30am-12:30pm. Please make sure you indicate a specific delivery time to the HUB Loading Dock. Instruct delivery services NOT to leave packages on the loading dock. SAO will only be open to retrieve mail between 10:30am-12:30pm, Monday-Friday. This system will be used until we resume normal operations.

How is the HUB cleaned?

The HUB custodial team uses peroxide-based EPA-registered disinfectants.  During the closure, the HUB custodial team has performed a building-wide deep disinfection throughout the open areas, with a heavy focus on frequently touched surfaces (door knobs/handles, light switches, counter tops, stair handrails, banisters, and elevator controls), HUB equipment regularly used by guests and clients, and all furniture/upholstery. Additionally, HUB administration worked with our service providers such as HUB Games, the RSO Resource Center, and the Husky Den Food Court, to ensure similar disinfectant procedures took place.

Are HUB offices operating?

Most HUB offices are providing remote services. Please contact individual offices for more information.

Can I access my locker in HUB Games?

Please contact hubgames@uw.edu to arrange a time for pickup once Washington’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order is lifted. If you have already paid for spring quarter, you can choose to extend your locker contract for an extra quarter (at no charge) or receive a refund when the HUB opens. If for any reason you don’t need/want the items in your locker, please contact hubgames@uw.edu to abandon your locker and the contents.

Will the HUB be open for meetings and events?

All meetings and events — including meeting spaces, major event spaces, HUB Games and the RSO Resource Center — scheduled through May 4 are canceled. Meetings and events after May 4 are on hold until further notice but have not been automatically canceled. All fees will be waived for clients who choose to cancel due to COVID-19 impacts. No new reservations will be accepted for spring quarter until further notice.

Student Organizations

Are Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), ASUW, and GPSS operating?

All RSOs will remain registered and have access to the Student Activities Office (SAO) advisors remotely. You may contact advisors directly, or email sao@uw.edu. In-person meetings and events are not permitted until further notice. SAO will work with RSOs, ASUW, and GPSS to continue student engagement through online methods throughout spring quarter.

Can I access my RSO office?

RSO officers may be granted limited access to retrieve items from their HUB office after April 24 by appointment only between 11:00am-12:30pm, Monday-Friday. No one will be allowed to bring items into the HUB for storage until the COVID-19 emergency actions end. To arrange access, or for more information, please contact sao@uw.edu.

Is emergency aid available for students?

Students with urgent financial needs resulting from issues related to income loss, lack of access to appropriate technology, medical issues, housing, etc. can apply for Emergency Aid. Funds are available for undergraduate and graduate students.

How can I help?

Now more than ever, we need each other. We encourage you to engage in your community. Even while social distancing, you can support UW efforts/students, carefully donate much-needed blood to a blood bank, contribute to your local food bank, buy gift certificates from small businesses, and more. It’s our collective effort that will help us overcome the widespread impact of COVID-19. Learn more at washington.edu/together.
